Herbal Treatments & Dispensary

The use of plants to treat illness is the oldest form of medicine. Many cultures continue to rely on herbs as their main source of healthcare.

Herbal medicine can be practised according to many different philosophies but common to all is the belief that mind and body are one and should be treated as such during times of illness and debility.

Traditionally herbs have been used as whole plant medicines rather than extracting one active constituent. Many orthodox medicines are derived from plant extracts and over the counter herbal preparations are often in the form of a ‘standardised extract’ containing one particular ingredient.

Medical herbalists are trained in the safe use of whole plant remedies and understand how the herbal medicines interact with orthodox medication.

Herbal prescriptions target the root cause, not just the symptoms.

Herbal medicine can be used for a variety of conditions and people often find that herbs can help ease long term conditions when conventional medicines have limited effect.

I offer a 1-1.5 hour in depth consultation which covers present health concerns, medical history, family medical history, functioning of body systems, diet, emotional well being, sleep patterns etc. I can then provide a tailored herbal treatment plan using herbal tinctures, teas, capsules, poultices, ointments and/or creams. Health concerns that  can be treated include insomnia, hormonal imbalance, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, stress, allergies, migraines/headaches, skin conditions, digestive disorders, complementary treatment for very serious illnesses and many more.

If you wish to discuss your particular health concerns  please contact me by email or phone.

I also make herbal products such as cough syrup, face cream, lip balm, foot balm, throat lozenges, chest rub, hand creams, muscles rub and massage oils.

Herbal medicine can be suitable for most people, including children but please remember herbs can have powerful effects and we advise you to consult a trained medical herbalist especially if you are suffering from a serious medical condition, taking conventional medication, are pregnant, breastfeeding or intending to conceive.
